A Day in Cape Town - Part 2

A Day in Cape Town - Part 2

The Company's Garden

Today is my 300th post on 1camera1mom! I've really enjoyed sharing my travels in photographs on this blog and I hope you will keep coming back for more!

The Company's Garden is a park and heritage site in the center of Cape Town. It was begun in 1652 with the first piece of land being planted with a fruit and vegetable garden.

Inside the garden today is a variety of trees, plants, flowers, and birds. People visiting the garden can be seen feeding the squirrels, which the birds take advantage of. There are also several memorials as well as museums and art galleries. Table Mountain can easily be seen from here too.

Check back next Tuesday
for the end of the series,
with more interesting photos
of Cape Town in Part 3!

A Day in Cape Town - Part 1

A Day in Cape Town - Part 1

St. George's Mall on
St. George's Street

Samantha planned a family outing to Cape Town before her 16th birthday. The day we left, she was helping her dad paint her bedroom, so her day was very full. I went with an inflamed ligament in my foot, but all the walking that we did was close by in the city center.

Samantha and Jessica bought matching dresses at the market on St. George's Mall. We also saw a live African performance of female dancers and singers.

Trust me, it's worth it!

Greenmarket Square on
Longmarket Street

At Greenmarket Square we checked out the stalls and African curious for sale. It's a historical square built in 1696 and declared a national monument in 1961. The distinctive cobblestones were laid in 1965 and there are interesting buildings surrounding the square from different eras.

Central Methodist Mission
on Longmarket Street

We were interested to see inside the Central Methodist Mission when we saw a sign inviting us in for coffee and croissants. Amanda had a hot chocolate, Samantha and I had cappuccinos, and Jessica and Robbie had regular coffees. We were really impressed with the croissants and carrot cake. I tasted both and they were top notch!

St. George's Cathedral
on Wale Street

From Longmarket Street we walked to Wale Street and had a peek inside St. George's Cathedral. My kids haven't been to Europe where there are plenty of beautiful churches, so seeing two in one day was neat. It was dark inside, so my photos didn't turn out that nicely, but they still give a good idea of what we saw.

16th Birthday at Nuy

Samantha turned 16 on Sunday. My in-laws came through and booked a table for us at Nuy on the Hill. It was a perfect day. Nuy offers wine tasting along with good food and beautiful views. Sundays they are often fully booked.
